Shopping For Contact Lenses Online Made Easy

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

By Helen Hecker Contact lens wearers are usually surprised and happy with the level of comfort that lenses provide. Now it’s easy to order the perfect contact lenses online at a significant discount. Ophthalmologists (M.D. or D.O.) are eye surgeons who study and treat eye diseases and can also perform the duties of optometrists; optometrists (O.D.) examine eyes, diagnose and treat vision problems, and prescribe eyeglasses and contact lenses and in most states they also can prescribe medicine; opticians grind and dispense eyeglasses and in some states dispense contact lenses. Always buy from a reputable company; you can buy discount contact lenses without a prescription, but the company is selling you a prescription device as if it were an over-the-counter device, in violation of FTC regulations - selling you lenses without having a prescription from you. In the U.S. contact lens marketplace, 82 percent wear soft lenses, 16 percent wear rigid gas-permeable and only 2 percent wear hard. There are also a few rigid gas permeable lenses that are designed and approved for overnight wear. The length of continuous lens wear depends on the lens type and your doctor’s evaluation of your tolerance for overnight wear. Contacts provide for excellent peripheral vision for sports, driving, safety, and performing. Rigid lenses generally give you more clear vision. Extra-thin soft lenses are on the market for very sensitive people. Soft lenses are easier to adjust and are much more comfortable than rigid lenses, because they conform to the eye and absorb and hold water. With planned-replacement lenses, the doctor works out a replacement schedule tailored to the needs of each patient. You can mark rigid lenses to show which lens is for which eye; they don’t rip or tear, so they’re easy to handle. You can become adjusted to soft lenses within just a few days, compared to several weeks for rigid ones. People who have good distance vision but need help for reading can get a monovision reading lens for one eye. In some models, each lens corrects for near and distance vision and in others, one lens is for near vision, and the other is for distance. You can buy contact lenses from an eye doctor, on the Internet, from an optical store or a warehouse club. Always buy from a reputable company; you can buy contact lenses without a prescription, but the company is selling you a prescription device as if it were an over-the-counter device violating FTC regulations by selling you contact lenses without having your prescription. Wherever you buy, shop for quality and value and don’t forget you want to do what’s best for your eye health. When you receive your order, if you think you’ve received an incorrect contact lens, check with your doctor or eye care professional right away; don’t accept any substitution unless your eye care professional approves it. Get a feel for how the retailer handles customer service calls; in case you have a problem after your order arrives. Focus on value, not just the price; most people looking for the best price are really looking for the best value. Always ask what rebates are available. Make sure you have a current, valid prescription when you order contact lenses. If you have an insurance plan, the insurance plan’s seller’s prices may or may not be better than what you can find elsewhere; this should be just one option when you’re shopping for lenses. Replace your contacts as recommended by your eye doctor because they wear out as time goes by. One sight-threatening concern is the infection Acanthamoeba keratitis, which is caused by improper lens care; this difficult-to-treat parasitic infection’s symptoms are similar to those of corneal ulcers. Microorganisms may be present in distilled water, so always use commercial sterile saline solutions, if you plan to use enzyme tablets in water for disinfections. When the eyes are open, tears carry adequate oxygen to the cornea to keep it healthy, but during sleep, the eye produces fewer tears, causing the cornea to swell. Extended-wear rigid lenses can cause unexpected, undesirable, reshaping of the cornea. To be sure your eyes remain healthy you shouldn’t order lenses with a prescription that’s expired or stock up on lenses right before the prescription is about to expire; it’s much safer to be re-checked by your eye doctor. Remember to use only contact lenses that are FDA-approved and only if prescribed by a licensed eye care professional. No matter which lenses your doctor prescribes, be sure to ask for written instructions and follow them carefully. If you’re looking for cheap contact lenses, you may find that cheap materials or other ways of cutting costs will affect the quality you’ll want for your precious eyes. An Alternative To Keeping Unwanted Stuff At Home

Monday, August 27th, 2007

By John Blane Ever wonder what you are going to do with all that old stuff in the attic or basement? Many would simply say to dump it out and make room for that new high-def television that you bought from Best Buy. Others would yell out “Ebay it”. Of course, the reality is that the old stuff stays with you because of the hassle of auctioning them off. We all know at least one person who collects just about everything and stores it anywhere in the house that can fit. Fortunately, there’s a way in getting rid of that stuff and get something in return. Swapping is a new alternative to buying and selling. In addition, swapping helps the environment by avoiding the additional pileups in the landfills. Instead, the stuff gets reused over and over. Benefits of swapping for most people include the following: fun, being part of a group, support, friendship, and knowledge. Swapping does not have to include just items. It can also include your services and skills. Why not swap your skill for something you always wanted? Your time and knowledge is worth something and that can be traded for something. There are many ways in getting rid of your unwanted stuff donating to charitable organizations, participating in swap events or meets, selling items at a stoop sale, calling a local exchange market, or swapping stuff online similar to Ebay-style. Keep in mind that there is always someone out there who can use or want your item. Keep the environment clean, save money, and start swapping. SwapTreasures http://www.swaptreasures.com is a site focused in helping people swap unwanted things. In addition, members can add stuff they are looking for, sell unwanted items, and share ideas among the swapping community. What You Need to Know about Botox Injections and Alternatives

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

By Lim Zheng Yang Technically known as botulinum toxin A, Botox is a neurotoxin that essentially paralyzes your muscles by blocking signals that otherwise tell your muscles to contract. The basic principle is, if the musles can’t move, wrinkles won’t form. While used for many medical applications, most people searching for such information are probably interested to know how it can help prevent wrinkles. Not all…but most ;) In fact, the FDA only approved of its use for cosmetic purposes back in 2002. Well, when the botulinum toxin is injected into a particular muscle group that’s affected by glabellar, or more commonly known as frown lines or furrows, the muscles become paralyzed. This means that they cannot contract, and the wrinkles will seem to “melt away”. Mind you, this kind of treament is not permanent, and the effects last anywhere from three weeks to eight months. Is it worth it? Well, that’s up to you to decide. There are always more ways than one to make yourself feel youthful and stay healthy. Of course, basics like using sunscreen, and having a proper skin care regime goes a long way in preventing wrinkles in the first place. But when they do appear, I’d like to perceive it as if I’m aging gracefully :) I’m not afraid to age, as long as I know I’ve lived my life to the fullest. What about you? ;) Lim Zheng Yang used to suffer from acne and has spent countless hours researching on this skin condition and the best ways to treat it. You can read more about his works at his main site about botox and his blog about other botox information. The Russian Mail Order Brides Movement

Friday, August 24th, 2007

By Kay Mub I am sure most of us have heard the term mail order brides being used frequently, especially if you are a regular online dating user. This term mail order bride is very commonly used by internet dating services that feature women, mostly from developing countries seeking men (usually foreign men) for marriage. You can find Asian mail order brides, African mail order brides, Latin mail order brides, and the focus of this article todayRussian mail order brides. Russian mail order bride is a label applied to a single Russian woman who lists herself in a catalog or a marriage agency that publishes her main intentto marry a foreign man. However the common misconceptions surrounding this term are that the women are uneducated, opportunistic gold diggers looking for a quick way out of their lives. This could not be further from the truth. All single women be they Russian women or not, are looking for a life partner who will be able to provide for their future family both emotionally and economically. Labeling Russian women looking for marriage partners as money hungry mail order brides is completely unfair as all women (and even men) strive to find a life partner who will be able to provide for them in the future. Russian women are brought up with a strong sense of family values and you will find that many of them are keen to get married and start a family. This strong sense of family values has seen a large increase in the number of single Russian women signing up with Russian marriage agencies and listing themselves as Russian mail order brides with the main intent of finding a man for marriage. In addition to this because the Russian women at these marriage agencies have the ultimate goal of marriage usually to a foreign man, they are immediately labeled as Russian mail order brides when they are simply trying to broaden their dating choices. The belief is that by signing up with a Russian marriage agency or a mail order bride service, you will soon be expecting a Russian woman at your door ready to walk down the aisle and be the mother of your children. Well, not anymore! With the term mail order bride losing its popularity as many women; ( Russian women included) find it to be derogatory and demeaning, the Russian mail order bride services are slowly decreasing and being replaced with online Russian dating services. Unlike mail order bride services, most other Russian dating services simply provide a platform that allows for introductions, facilitates communication and helps to link single Russian women with partners that share the same goals. The term Russian mail order brides and Russian marriage agencies will soon be a thing of the past, as more Russian women start using Russian online dating services to find love. These dating services offer an environment where labels such as mail order brides are not applied to them, and they can simply be viewed as single women hoping to meet their true love. Let us not look at single Russian women using online dating services to meet men as opportunistic Russian mail order brides, but instead look at them as hopeless romantics using every avenue possible to find the true loves of their lives. Brighten up the Home and Garden with Cedar Railings

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

By Andrew Caxton There are various types of wooden railings and cedar is one of the options you can choose. Not many people consider cedar due to the fact that it is not widely advertised. However, as well as adding a natural color to the home, cedar railings are also lower maintenance than other wood railings are. Cedar Railings and Their Many Advantages Cedar is derived from the cedar tree and they are grown in various different parts of the world. The trees grow to around fifty meters and the leaves grow to up to three feet long. There are various different types of cedar and they include: Cyprus cedar Turkish Cedar Deodar cedar Lebanese Cedar Cedar railings have a natural color and it comes in either red or white. This means that you get more of a choice when it comes to which type of wood you would like to use to brighten up the home. The main advantage of course is that cedar railings do not need as much maintenance as other types of wood railings. Usually you only really need to add a little lacquer once every three years and that only usually takes just fifteen to twenty minutes for every one thousand square feet. Apart from that the cedar looks its best for years before maintenance is needed. So Easy You Could Do It Yourself! Cedar railings are so easy to create you could literally do it yourself as long as you had the right tools. Due to the fact that cedar is fairly common, it shouldnt be a problem finding some cedar and most of the time the railings are pre cut so all you have to do is install them wherever you want to. You can inform the supplier of where you are buying the cedar from what the measurements of the area you are installing it into are and the design which you would like, and they could then send that off to the manufacturer and you could have your own, specially designed cedar railings to fit your home. The only thing you may need to do if installing the railings yourself, is to chip certain parts of the wood away. Overall cedar railings not only look good, but they are also easy to maintain compared to other wood railings and they also have a nice, sweet smell to them too. You really cannot go wrong with cedar railings if you are looking for wood railings to make your home complete. Outdoor Furniture Covers

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Seth Miller If you have outdoor furniture that cant be stored indoors in bad or winter months, that you definitely need outdoor furniture covers. As a matter of fact, even people who live in warm, tropical climates purchase patio furniture to protect their furniture from the elements. Consider your outdoor furniture. If you have wicker, then the seats are probably made of a cotton material. Although this material is usually waterproof, it is best preserved with covers during rain and damp weather. There are also synthetic products like polypropylene that look like wood but have the resistance and durability of plastic. Even though polypropylene is durable, it too is best preserved if covered during inclement weather in order to retain its rich color and wood tone finish. Wood is also a favorite for outdoor furnishings and is usually treated t with a water and insect repellent paint or stain. Patio furniture covers for wooden outdoor furniture can be purchased to match the color of a deck or poolside set. Easy throw on covers made from heavy plastic material or other synthetic fabric is available for most outdoors furniture and can be purchased individually or as a set. Covers are a smart investment. They are usually waterproof and UV treated and will last for years. Youll find patio furniture covers to fit chairs, tables and sets. Most patio furniture covers come with a warranty that guarantees replacement for up to three years. You can purchase covers at your local home and garden shop or check online for outdoor furniture covers. Marketing Made Simple

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Mike Myatt One of the most entertaining things you can do in business is to attend a meeting where a group of senior executives begin to pontificate on the subject of marketing. I have more fun watching people attempt to distinguish between marketing, advertising, branding, mediums, channels, markets, verticals, sectors, business development, sales, communications, public relations, etc. It never ceases to amaze me at how something so simple can become so convoluted, and how people can so passionately take a completely ridiculous stance and want to defend that position to the death. In this blog post I will attempt to demystify the subject of marketing and give you some actionable items can be implemented immediately to generate improved results. Lets take a moment and have some fun with definitions. The following two definitions of marketing come from the American Marketing Association. The first was a definition was used from 1985 until 2004 when the revised edition was released by the AMA. Previous AMA Definition: Marketing is the process of planning and executing conception, pricing, promotion and distribution of goods, ideas and services to create exchanges that satisfy individual and organizational goals. Current AMA Definition: Marketing is an organizational function and a set of processes for creating, communicating and delivering value to customers and for managing customer relationships in ways that benefit the organization and its stakeholders. OKa quick analysis of the two aforementioned definitions shows that the mistake of obviating the customer from the original definition was corrected by the clear and emphasized inclusion of the customer in the revised definition (I guess I wont resign my AMA membership just yet). Let me be clear that Im not meaning to make fun of academic theory or best practices, but I have little use for generic, omnibus or overarching statements as they tend not to accomplish anything of value, but rather they just create confusion among the ranks. Lets take a look at a few more definitionsMost of you know how fond I am of Druckerisms and so in good conscience I must quote him to you yet againPeter Druckers definition of marketing is: Marketing and innovation are the two chief functions of business. You get paid for creating a customer, which is marketing. And you get paid for creating a new dimension of performance, which is innovation. Everything else is a cost center. Now were getting a bit closer, but this is still too ambiguous for my taste From my perspective the problem with marketing as a discipline is that the desired result often gets lost in the vast expanse of its multi-disciplinary nature. The reality is that marketing is really the aggregation of any activity that touches the customer and that is just too much for most organizations to get their arms around, let alone to manage and execute on. So, at the end of the day I believe marketing is any activity that catalyzes a selling opportunity (my definition). Put simply I want marketing activities to make my phone ring! I dont care what the medium, market or message is, if it doesnt put a qualified prospect into a selling situation it is a waste of time, money and effort. Before the Myatt bashers come out of the shadows, Im not diminishing the value of brand equity, market share, mind share, etc., but Im simply trying to take a complex subject and make it real and actionable. If youre conducting brand campaigns or mind share initiatives thats fine, but realize that in most circumstances while these may classically be defined as marketing activities these efforts dont catalyze sales opportunities in the short run. The litmus test of any good gorilla marketing effort is measuring return on cost of sales. A great marketing campaign generates a high velocity of selling opportunities at the lowest possible cost over the shortest possible selling cycle. If you juxtapose this with the typical branding initiative youll see that these two efforts are truly diametrically opposed. So the goal of marketing is to not get caught up in theoretical debates and academic exercises, but to realize that the main thing, is to keep the main thing the main thing. If you cant put every marketing initiative under the magnifying glass and tie it to an acceptable return based on the generation of sales then you might want to reconsider what youre doing. Get Fit From Home - Part 5: The Ultimate Fat Loss Program

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

By Wesley Norris Welcome to the 5th and final part of Get Fit From Home!! —————————The Ultimate Lose-Fat Program————————— You have heard for years and years that the most effective way to lose fat is to spend long, tedious hours walking on a treadmill or riding a bike. I am here to tell you that its not true! It is a fact that during any exercise activity, the body is burning both carbohydrates and fat for energy. It is also a fact that the higher the intensity of an exercise, you burn more carbohydrates and less fat. So, the obvious answer looks like you should exercise at a lower intensity to burn more fat. Here is the problem with that: Although you will burn more fat per calorie with lower intensity exercise, you will burn a greater total number of calories with higher intensity exercise which will, in turn, create more total fat being burned for the entire exercise session. Studies have also shown that interval training is the most effective program for fat loss. The reason for this, simply stated, is that you will burn calories for a longer period of time after the interval workout (some studies show up to 12 hours), compared to about 15 minutes following a long, slow duration exercise session. What is interval training? Interval training is doing a portion of an exercise at a high intensity, followed by a longer period of a very low intensity, or the rest period. To use running as an example: an interval program with would start off with a 5 minute warm-up, followed by a very fast run/sprint for 5-10 seconds (depending on your current level of conditioning). You would then slow down to a very slow jog to get the heart rate down for about 1-4 minutes (depending on what you feel you need). This would be repeated anywhere from 5 rounds, to a 30 minutes total workout! The object is to, over a period of time, increase the amount of high intensity work, and decrease the amount of rest in between., until you have reached a 1:3 ratio of high intensity to low intensity work. (example: 10 second sprint: 30 second rest) This method of training is certainly a harder workout, but the benefits will be well worth it! Dont start your first workout at 100% of your maximal effort for your high intensity portion. Test the waters a little to see where you are best suited to start. This can also be done on a stationary bike, a treadmill, with a jump rope (jump for 10 seconds, jog for a minute or 2), stairs, however!! Get creative! Find a way thats fun for you!! *As with any exercise program, consult a physician before starting an exercise program, or if you have any questions regarding what exercises might be best for you! What’s in a Name? Part 2 - Surname Spelling Variations

Friday, August 17th, 2007

By Joseph Yakel Why does everyone in your family spell its surname the same way? Just who decided upon the spelling anyway? One of the challenges genealogists and family historians face is getting to the root of the surname they are researching. Simply put, the name you answer to, sign on checks, and pass on to your own children may be considerably different than the spelling your ancestors used centuries ago. So, whats with all of the surname changes? Surname alterations occurred for many reasons. Perhaps there was a lack of concern for accuracy by either the writer or subject person; grammatical inability or name abbreviation by the writer (common during immigration procedures); difficulty understanding the given name (perhaps the writer was of a different nationality, and did not recognize the subject person’s spoken words - a common error with census enumerators); simple copycat errors (the writer saw and repeated previously misspelled references). In the oldest records, the most common reason for surname variability was simply that it just wasnt very important. That may be a bit more difficult to understand in todays society, but years ago, literacy and grammar were not priorities working, feeding the family, and just staying alive comprised the important events of the time. My YAKEL surname is actually an Americanized variant on the original JCKEL and/or JECKEL spelling of my Germanic forefathers. Over the span of 350 years, the name has changed more than 50 times. While the number of name changes over this period may be somewhat surprising, in actuality, the pronunciation has changed very little. I have categorized these name variations mainly into three distinct groups: The I-Type, J-Type, and Y-Type names. First, there are the I-Type names: ICKEL, IEKEL, IKEL. These surnames were used by parts of my family after they had emigrated to New York, and subsequently moved to Iowa in the 1860’s. Later, when some of the relatives came full circle and moved back to New York, they maintained the IEKEL spelling. It continues to be spelled this way today. Next, there are the J-Type names, which are closest to the Rheinish German original: JACELIN, JACKAL, JACKALL, JACKEL, JACKELIN, JACKELL, JACQUEL, JAECKEL, JAECHEL, JAECKLE, JAEGER, JAEGLE, JAEKEL, JAGEL, JAGER, JAKAL, JAKEL, JAKELL, JAYKILL, JECHELL, JECKEL, JECKELIN, JECKELL, JEKEL, JEKLE, JEYKILL, JOCKEL, JOECKEL, JOEKEL. When the family first came to America, they used the JACKEL, JECKEL and JEKEL spellings. When parts of the family moved west to Wisconsin in the 1860’s, the spelling was modified slightly, to JAEKEL and JAECKEL. It remained that way through the 1980s, when the last parts of this family branch passed on. Then, there are the Y-Type names: YACKEL, YACKLE, YAEGLE, YAEKEL, YAGAL, YAGEL, YAGER, YAGET, YAGLE, YAGLES, YAKEL, YAKIL, YAKLE, YEAGEL, YEAGLE, YEAKLE, YECKEL, YEKEL, YEOKLE, YICKEL, YICKLE, YOCKEL, YOGEL, YOGLE, YOKEL, YORKEL, YORKELL, YORKLE. The Albany, NY families, of which I am a part, used many of these surname variants. In the early 1870’s, the YAKEL spelling took prominence, and all other variants were discarded. Presumably, it was at this time that our family decided that a consistent surname was in its best interest. This spelling continues as the sole surname for my family in the New York Capital region. So, why all of the odd spellings in my family name? The similarities between all three types of spellings are no coincidence. The German letter J is pronounced like the English letter Y. Hence, a person asking one of my ancestors what their name was, would hear the J-type name with a Y-type sound. If the person hearing the name was not German, or had no understanding of the German language, they would then interpret this “Y” sound as a Y-type word, and write it down that way. This led to the variety of “Y-Type” spellings over the years. On the other hand, someone with knowledge of the German dialect would be more apt to write the name down more correctly with a J-type spelling, or perhaps an “I-Type” spelling, since the letter “I” could also be used interchangeably with the letter “J”. Census enumerators, priests, doctors, lawyers, schoolteachers, tax collectors, and any other persons with need to write down your family name probably had some input in how it was written, and ultimately, contributed to the surname you now proudly advertise to the world. The name you use now may only be a remnant of your forebears. However, if you know something about the ethnic background of your family, it may be possible to determine the original surname spelling. Perhaps in another two hundred years, your family name will have changed yet again, leaving your descendants to wonder how their name came to be. Why not make it a little easier, and leave them with some history of your surname. Theyll be happy you did! Best of luck as you trace your history! This is the second article, “Surname Spelling Variations”, in the 3-part series, “What’s in a Name?” by Joseph Yakel. Online Dating - The New Era

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

By Jean Helmet Many people in the olden days would get their dates from doing their day to day activities. Even your Mother and Father, they probably met at work or during a night out or while perusing one of their hobbies. Some people meet their dates at coffee shops and they turn to be their love of their life. However, times have changed somewhat and more so over the last decade. Today it is not uncommon for people to go on dates from people they met on the internet. In-fact, by many today, this is considered normal. After all, who uses the internet? The answer is of course simple, people like you and me, that does not mean you should go meeting people as soon as you log on the internet. Extra care should always be taken because in the end, you dont know anything about the new person you intend on meeting, so you need to be aware of ways of going about things more safely. A good place to start would be at one of the wide array of adult dating sites online. Such places normally have a pre-screening method before they let people join. You normally have to provide a photo, some proof of who you are, and if you choose the premium services, some valid bank details to confirm that the person is who they claim. You should be very cautious about meeting people in chat rooms because you really dont know who you are taking to in such places. You could end up talking to someone who says they are something, but it turns out they are not telling you the truth. There are many horror stories about people meeting on the internet and one of the persons turns out to be someone completely different. Again, just try to use common sense before you go meeting that new person. Try a web cam, phone calls before hand so you have a better idea of what they look like. We advise you always meet in a public place, such as coffee shop where there are lost of people. Try get to know the person. Many people have met their first loves on the internet from the various dating websites. Take caution and you could well end up meeting the love of your life.
